Should I Get a Breast Augmentation or a Breast Lift?
Many women know they have small, asymmetrical, or deflated breasts, but they are unsure if a breast augmentation alone will give them the results they want. Below is a general guide to help determine whether a breast augmentation, breast lift, or combination of the two procedures will give you the fuller, more youthful silhouette you desire.
What Do You Desire?
Before you can determine the best procedure, you have to define what you really want. Get familiar with the cup size you might be comfortable with, and determine if there is an excess amount of sagging present. The extent of sagging may determine which procedure is best.
Larger Breasts
If size is what matters to you, breast augmentation is the only procedure that will make your breasts larger. A breast lift may give the illusion of larger breasts, but it will not make them bigger. A breast lift may actually result in a reduced cup size due to the elimination of loose skin.
Even or “Matching” Breasts
Uneven or misshapen breasts are very common. Since each person is different with regard to anatomy and goals for the procedure, Dr. Moser can best determine the appropriate procedure to correct asymmetry during a consultation. Depending on the size you would like and how much sagging is present, Dr. Moser may use a combination of breast reduction, augmentation, and lift techniques.
Higher Breasts
If your breasts are sagging, the nipples usually fall beneath the breast crease or point downward. A breast lift is the only procedure that will get rid of excess skin and literally lift the breasts to a more youthful position.
Smaller Areola
Many women don’t know that they can reduce the size of their areolas, if desired, during a breast lift because of the incision location. Conversely, areolar reduction cannot always happen at the same time as a breast augmentation since the skin will be stretching to make room for the implants.
A Complete Transformation
If you relate to one or more of the above, it may be advantageous to get a breast lift and a breast augmentation at the same time, which is a common practice. If you have sagging, deflated, or misshapen breasts that are too small for your liking, this combination of procedures may be right for you.
