Breast Augmentation (Breast Implants)
Orange County Breast Surgeon

Breast Augmentation - Orange County Breast Surgeon “I was embarrassed every summer when I went to the beach.  My breasts were so small that I even had trouble finding a swimsuit that fit. But, in just a couple of hours, I went from a flat, underdeveloped chest to the figure I’ve always wanted.”

Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure to increase the size and shape of a woman's breasts. If you have small underdeveloped breasts, breasts that that have atrophied after pregnancy or two different sized breasts, augmentation mammoplasty can help. This surgical procedure can increase the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. By placing an implant behind each breast, your surgeon can increase your bustline by one or more bra cup sizes. Sometimes a breast lift is done at the same time to raise and lift sagging breast tissues.

Your surgeon will create a pocket for the breast implant by lifting up your skin and breast tissue. This pocket will either be located under the breast muscle or directly underneath the breast tissue.  The implants are then inserted, centered and the incisions closed.  An ace bandage or support bra will be placed around the breasts to hold them in the correct position.

Most breast implants are round, but a new type of implant, known as an anatomical or naturally shaped implant, has just recently become available. It can sometimes help to add fullness to the upper part of the breast (especially after childbirth) and give more projection to the nipple and lower breast tissue. During your consultation your surgeon will help you select the type of implant that will give the look you wish to achieve.

A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with saline (salt water) solution or silicone gel. The implant is inserted under the breast tissue or beneath the breast muscle.  Incisions can be made around the areola (the dark skin around the nipple), under the breast in your natural crease or in the armpit.  The size, type and placement of your implants and the location of your incisions will be decided by you and your surgeon.

You will be sore for a few days after your surgery.  The degree of discomfort depends on whether the implants are placed under the breast tissue or under the breast muscle.  Any discomfort can be controlled by pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.

Swelling and bruising of the breasts is normal and will begin to subside in a week or so. The incisions are placed to keep the scars as inconspicuous as possible and will become barely noticeable after several months.  You may have a decrease in sensitivity around your nipples or some numbness near the incision after surgery.  These symptoms usually disappear with time.
Many patients may need to wear a bra, ace bandage or other garment to help position the implants correctly immediately after surgery. Your surgeon will advise you as to when you can resume wearing your regular bra.

Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and increase your self-esteem.  You will be thrilled with your new contours and the way you fill out your clothes.

Anatomical Breast Augmentation

Anatomical Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure to increase the size and shape of a woman’s breasts using special anatomically correct (teardrop) shaped implants.

If you have breasts that have atrophied after pregnancy or are minimally droopy, but you do not want a breast lift, an anatomically correct breast implant may be what you need. This teardrop shaped implant can provide more upper breast fullness while at the same time allowing more lower breast projection. This implant can be placed either under the breast muscle or on top of the breast muscle depending on how much natural breast tissue is available. An anatomical breast implant provides a more natural looking breast compared with round implants and is especially suited to taller women. A consultation and examination with an AesthetiCare surgeon can determine if you are a candidate for this special implant.

An anatomical breast implant is a silicone shell filled with saline (salt water) solution or silicone gel. The implant can be placed either under the breast tissue or beneath the breast muscle. Incisions are usually made around the areola (the dark skin around the nipple) so that proper implant placement can be better controlled. The implants are then inserted, centered, vertically aligned and the incisions closed. An ace bandage or support bra will be placed around the breasts to hold them in the correct position.
