Corrective Acne Treatments

The goals in treating acne are two-fold. First, the inflammatory stages of acne outbreaks with the presence of blackheads, whiteheads, pustules and cysts are addressed for the appropriate skin care routine that is necessary to control oil and sebum production. Next, daily, weekly or monthly treatments (either home-care or in-office treatments) are planned to best control new or overlapping outbreaks and reduce the risk of scarring.

At Aestheticare Med Spa, we have multiple treatment options for acne control and reduction of acne scarring:

  • The RevPeel is a great chemical peel option to target and control acne breakouts.
  • Discolorations of the skin are best treated with IPL laser treatments in conjunction with medical-grade skincare products.
  • Laser Genesis treatments can help improve acne scarring by stimulating new collagen and improving skin texture.
  • Active cysts can be treated with intra-lesional injections of corticosteroids to reduce the risk of scars

A consultation is recommended for the best treatment option for each individual.

Limelight IPL™

Turn back the hands of time! The Limelight Photofacial quickly and effectively reduces spots, freckles, sun damage, redness and brown spots.  This intense pulse light (IPL) treatment uses a broad array of wavelengths to tackle the reds and brown discolorations in your skin leaving it look youthful and bright. Limelight Photofacial therapy is an advanced type of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, which is highly customizable for each patient. This treatment visibly reduces the appearance of dark spots or discoloration caused by prolonged exposure to the sun, reduces generalized redness due to rosacea, and minimizes pore size.

What is the Limelight Photofacial?

Cutera’s Limelight Photofacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation to improve skin tone and surface imperfections. This treatment is ideal for any part on your face, neck, décolletage, hands and even arms. It helps to renew your skin’s look by removing the tell-tale signs of age and sun-abused skin. Limelight Photofacial therapy is different from other phototherapy treatments in the fact that it is non-abrasive to the surface of the skin. Limelight Photofacial therapy is designed to reduce the damage done to the upper layers of the dermis due to sun exposure. Limelight Photofacial therapy can rid the skin of sun spots, discoloration, and fine lines from sun damage. Limelight Photofacial therapy has also been shown to help treat the reddening of the skin associated with rosacea. Limelight Photofacial therapy can be performed on many areas of the body, with the most popular areas being those heavily exposed to the sun, including the face, hands, shoulders, back and arms.

How does it work?

Limelight Photofacial therapy uses phototherapy to target sun spots an dredness. . The heat encourages the even reduction of both the redness and the pigment, leaving behind a smooth, even skin tone. Limelight Photofacial therapy is administered to patients using a manually guided hand piece. The actual administration of the each wave of pulsed light lasts no more than a few seconds and may cause a slight stinging sensation, leaving the skin feeling as though it was lightly snapped by a rubber band. For patients who are concerned about discomfort during the procedure a topical anesthetic can be applied to the areas to be treated 30 minutes before the procedure. For procedures done without the anesthetic the treatment time usually takes 20 minutes. For patients who opt to receive the topical anesthetic the procedure takes closer to an hour, allowing additional time for the topical anesthetic to be fully absorbed. This treatment works best on patients with light to medium colored skin tones, however your medical provider may be able to customize the treatment for individuals with darker pigmentation. Be sure to consult with your medical provider about your compatibility before scheduling the procedure.

Am I a candidate for the Limelight Photofacial?

Almost everyone is a candidate except for very dark skin types. Typically patients who complain of pigment after childbearing, sun exposure, red cheeks/neck or age brown spots are great candidates. Our staff will likely couple your laser treatment with an effective skincare package that will help maintain your results at home!

What does the treatment feel like?

The Limelight laser is customized to your skin type by selectively treating the brown and/or red pigmented areas.  When the pulsed light is delivered, patients experience a mild snapping sensation. The more pigmentation or redness, the more of a snap you may feel.

What is the social downtime?

Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and within one to three weeks the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Once the spots peel away you will have a clean, bright, and uniform complexion that will reduce your need for powders and concealers!

Benefits

Limelight photofacial therapy is a quick and painless way for ridding the upper layers of the skin from any visible damage done by the sun. It is also one of the fastest methods for treating discoloration of the skin associated with rosacea. The treatment encourages collagen production around the skin’s capillaries, which can improve the youthful appearance of the skin and also help reduce enlarged pores. The benefits of the procedure begin to emerge 2 to 3 weeks after the initial treatment, with the full results being apparent after a month. Areas of dark pigmentation targeted by the treatment will begin to darken and eventually flake off within one to three weeks after the procedure. Beneath these patches will be beautiful, spot-free skin.
